Monday, March 9, 2009 was rough. Last Wednesday Peyton got off of my bed and somehow tripped like she always does. When she stood up she immediately collapsed. It was like her leg was asleep. She then limped all day where she would collapse at times when her leg would buckle. We had no clue what was going on. We called some friends who are PAs to ask their opinions. Both of them agreed that we should give it the evening to see how things progressed. She woke up in the morning and it was better. I called my Doctor who suggested we go to the ER to get xrays and blood work. I thought that seemed crazy, but I called the ER advice nurse to see what they would say at Womack. She said not to bring her to the ER and to keep an eye on it. I was really worried about her picking something up (flu, strep throat, etc.) at the ER.

So we woke up on Friday morning and it was a lot better. Same thing on Saturday. We're in the clear, right? Nope. Sunday morning she wakes up and she's limping again. Oh, keep in mind that she's showing no signs of pain. NONE! No crying, no wincing, no nothing. She'd let all of us touch her and move her legs and feet. She would play, run, climb, etc.

On Sunday I called the Peds Advice Nurse and she said to make a follow up appointment with my Doctor and have her refer me to xrays. So that's what we did this morning. Our doctor seemed a little annoyed we didn't take her to the ER on Thursday, but the nurse somewhat agreed with us that she really could have gotten sick from the ER. I guess you really don't know what the right call is. We went to the doc around 11 and she agreed that something was wrong. It looks like it's her right foot now.

Our doctor referred us to xrays and blood work at the civilian diagnostic center. Oh, what a difference that makes. Everyone was super nice. They were so good with Peyton. Fortunately I had Dad with me because he had to go into the xrays with Peyton since I'm pregnant. It was so tough listening to her scream. I felt so bad. Dad and the tech held her down. No papoose which I guess is good. Then she calmed down once Mommy was visible again. And, she got stickers. She had no clue she was not done yet! On to blood work. The two ladies were so nice. We got through that with many tear on both ends. In the middle of the screaming, I said "Peyton, do you want to go get ice cream?" She responded with a very pathetic "yeahhhhhh." It was so cute.

That's what we did next. Ice cream at McDonald's where they have a huge fish tank. She watched the fish and forgot about her trauma. She still had the tape on her arm and was acting like her arm didn't work anymore. It was really funny. I took the tape off and suddenly the arm came back to life.

The doc is supposed to call tonight or tomorrow morning. She said no more than 24 hours. I hope she calls tonight, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Everything takes time. I will update as soon as we know something. I'm really worried they're going to come back and say "well, keep her off of it for awhile and it should get better." How do you keep a 2o month old off of a hurt foot that she shows no sign of being hurt? Yikes!

I hope she's fine and am glad you went to the dr...it made me think of the comment, 'are you hurt or are you injured??' since she's able to run around on it, thinking about it what is the difference? Victoria had her first fever this weekend and it's nervewracking having a sick kid but as you know they are resilient!

I hope little Peyton is ok and its just one of those things. And that you are not too stressed. I guess its a good sign if there is no rush for a call back. Bad news always seems to travel faster in the medical world.

And good luck keeping her off it if you have to.

If this helps ease your mind a little (which it probably won't) Lexie has done that before and still does that sometimes. At one point she was pulling her leg around the mall like it was completely worthless. Our doctor has always said its ok and related to growing pains (which she gets a lot of) or something else.

When I was little, I fell off my brother's bed and jammed my leg. I didn't have many signs but I had recently started walking and then returned to crawling and only sometimes wimpering. Needless to say I was able to bounce back.

Crack, you are totally cracking me up with the "Are you hurt or are you injured?" comment. Its been a long time since I heard that one.

I will pray for little Peyton. I hope it is not broken and just a pulled muscle or something simple like that...
