Stories from the last week

Story One: Timeline

12:15 a.m. - Cape Fear Hospital called to let me know I could come in from my induction.
12:20 a.m. - Hopped in shower to "get ready." That's where the perfect hair came into play. I went ahead and blow dried my hair and straightened it.
2 a.m. - Arrived at hospital
4 a.m. - Started Pitocin. They increased the amount every 15 minutes.
4:10 a.m. - Contractions started - whew!
6:30 a.m. - Epidural....the love of modern medicine
8:30 a.m. - Water broke and started to feel Bristol come down the birth canal.
9:15 a.m. - Dr. Ponder finally arrived. I really wanted to push at this point.
9:35 a.m. - Bristol was born

Story Two: Peyton and Bristol's Meet and Greet

Peyton arrived at my hospital room around 7 p.m. the night Bristol was born. She was very excited to come see us and meet Bristol. When we called her that day she said "Bristol out of Mommy's tummy" and "Britol's coming home!" These two statements were said with a lot of enthusiasm. So...the door swung open and she really didn't want to come inside. She was afraid of me being in the bed. She went straight over to Bristol and said "HI BRISTOL!!!" Peyton was enthralled with her baby sister.

Finally, after we ate dinner, she warmed back up to Mommy and wanted to sit with me and cuddle the rest of the night.

Story Three: Dr. Shekar comes to see Bristol

Our Pediatrician Dr. Shekar was coming by to see Bristol and do her initial assessment. The nurse came by to pick up Bristol and we said she was going to see Dr. Shekar. Peyton flipped out. She totally knew who Dr. Shekar was! Then about 20 minutes later there was a knock on the door. Peyton was laying in bed with me at the time. The door swung open and there was Dr. Shekar - oh no! Peyton leaped off the bed and launched into Rob's arms. She was not happy to see "Shekar" as she calls her. Then when it was time for her to leave Peyton said "BYE SHEKAR!" So funny.

Story Four: Where's Bristol?

Our dear friends Becs, Paul, Lexie and Laney came over today on their way back to Florida from vacation. When they came in I was feeding Bristol and she was under my hooter hider. Becs asked Peyton "are you a big sister?" And, Peyton replied with "YUP!" Then she started to look for Bristol. She went over to Bristol's swing and looked over and under it and said "where's Bristol?" It was so cute. Then I showed her she was under the blanket and she was like "oh, there she is!"

Peyton has been fabulous. She is transitioning so well to her new role as big sister. She's been the little helper. She absolutely loves her little sister. We hope the bond stays strong.

Story Five:
After my 2nd push when Bristol came flying out, the doctor looked over at Rob and said "I won't charge you extra for my herniated disc." He then stood up and stomped over to the baby nurse holding Bristol like she weighed 900 pounds. It was really funny.

Thanks again to everyone for their well wishes. Things are going great. Bristol is a doll. She's so sweet. She's so easy going. She barely ever cries - only when her obvious hungry signs are ignored. We are enjoying our new life as a family of five (to include Dad!)
