We've been busy over the last week since Rob's been home. I'll jot down a few highlights and upload pictures later.
1. Peyton went on her first boat ride with some friends of ours. Shelley and Curtis bought a fancy, new boat and they needed some company so we offered our services. Their little girl is Lauren and she is 5 weeks younger than Peyton. As you can imagine Shelley and I have compared notes almost daily (she works with me.) We pumped at work together, complained about our lack of sleep, compared development notes and doctor visits, etc. Back to the boat. We had a blast. Peyton wasn't a huge fan of the wind or the water. She had her new Dora life vest on and looked adorable. She was scared to death when someone would jump in the water. My theory is that it was all new and the water was murky so I can't blame her. All the sudden the guys would launch off the back of the boat into the water and she could only see their heads. I would be traumatized too. So we have some work to do there. She also wasn't very excited about the wind in her face. She got used to it, but at first she buried her head in my chest. I enjoyed the cuddle time.
2. Rob took Peyton to Play Morning yesterday on post. It's provided by ACS at one of our NHC gyms. They do song time, crafts and free play. Rob had to chase Peyton all over the gym. During the song time she chose to stand in front of the circle and dance. Then during free play she walked around and took toys from other kids. Not in a vicious way. More like - hey let's play together, but let me drive the stroller. She loved the stroller. She'd throw the baby on the ground and then push the stroller all around the gym. She was exhausted though because she missed her morning nap. Then Rob realized he forgot her bottle. Poor thing was probably so thirsty. So he hurried home while singing Old MacDonald.
3. Rob has done a great job, but something funny happened yesterday. He said Peyton was pretty cranky all afternoon and he attributed it to her missing her morning nap and not taking a great afternoon one. She did finally give it up for 3 hours last evening, but when she got up she was clingy and cranky. This is so not like her. I couldn't' figure out what was wrong. So we went and picked up some food and brought it home. I told Rob to put her in her chair so I could give her her favorite Baked Ziti . That's when we realized that Rob did not feed Peyton lunch. She was starving. She was cranky because she hadn't eaten since breakfast. Needless to say she scarfed down her dinner.
This weekend we're headed up to Newport News, VA to attend my friend LeeAnn's wedding. It should be a lot of fun. We're planning on going to a petting zoo, the aquarium, a children's museum and the beach. Oh, and our hotel has an indoor pool so we'll be doing some swimming with the little one. Rob said that after the boat ride he needs to do some water training with Peyton. I said she's only been in a pool once so you can't blame her.
Hope everyone has a great Labor Day!

1. ISR (only a short drive to Raleigh) :-)
2. That's funny. When Lorelai wants to play, she'll take a toy and tell the kid "SHARE" then smile and play happily.
3. Only Rob! Well, not really. I'm pretty sure I've forgotten once or twice. Now is a great time to teach her the sign for "eat," apparently!!! ha ha
Have fun at the wedding. Tell everyone we said hello!!
Sounds like Rob is catching up on all that he missed. Too cute about play morning, but too bad about missed lunch. I'd be cranky too.
Sound like you guys are having a blast!!! Keep us updated on the trip to Newport News!
Paul has done that too, Rob. No worries. I probably have, as well, but chose to repress that memory.
So cute about her "playing" with the other kids and the stroller. But you might want to work on keeping the baby in the stroller before you have another... just in case.
Guess you'll just have to keep offering to keep your friends company on their boat so Peyton gets more used to it. Oh, darn.
Have fun at the wedding!
