The day finally came when Peyton and I decided to stop breastfeeding. Those moments are now over. It was a pleasant breakup. She was 8 1/2 months old when she had her final sip of liquid gold. She didn't even know it was her final time. She is completely content drinking her formula. She loves flinging around her bottle and showing off her independence. I still have some frozen milk so I guess she's not completely done.
It's really weird now having to remember to grab a bottle and formula before we go out. Today was a great day as I strolled through the mall with Peyton in her stroller drinking a bottle. It's the first time I was able to shop. And, yes, I did do some damage :)
I also forgot to tell everyone that she is completely sleeping through the night. She goes down around 8 p.m. and gets up around 6 a.m. She takes a bottle at 6 and then goes back down until 8ish. It's really nice. I forgot how fabulous uninterrupted sleep really is. I can't say that I would have done anything differently. I enjoyed our nights together in bed. I will most likely do the exact same thing with baby #2. My little princess is that much more confident because of the extra bonding we had. (Not that I was ever worried about her being confident!)
The sleeping through the night had a lot to do with the push to go 100% formula. Dad gets all the credit for it. I went away on a trip and while I was gone he got her into the routine. I didn't want to break it when I got home. The other issue that pushed it was that she hadn't gained any weight from 6 months to 8 months. I was getting a little concerned. She has now put on 2 pounds. She is 19 pounds now. I know it seems really small for my child, but I looked at my baby book and I was 19.10 pounds at my 9 month check up. Peyton is right on track. She is still wearing 6-9 month clothes. It's so cute.
Things are going well personally too. It's really weird how my body has responded to the 8 months of nursing and now nothing. I've had no issues with breast pain or anything like that. I have dropped a few pounds in the last week and I seriously think it's because my body now realizes that it doesn't have to feed someone else. Let's hope that trend continues!
Thanks for all the comments on the Douglas/Mahan circus. It's always something around here!!

You guys had a great run!
What a nice post. I love to hear how you all are doing. I always hear that the weight really drops off after you finish nursing because you are no longer feeding 2 (as you said) and that your boobs become smaller than before. (Ironically neither of these happened to me.)
I loved the confidence quote.
Peyton seems like such a little gem. You are one lucky mom.
Although, you have referenced #2 again... always makes people wonder. (I know, I know)
Great nickname for Christine's bun in the oven and I can't believe it never crossed my mind!
Wow Kel, that is impressive- 8 months! Especially since you wrok full time. I love BF but it does takes its toll on your body. And yes, you'll probably lose weight now- a nice benefit.
We talked about all this yesterday, so I'm just going to comment, so I can get emailed about the other comments. :-)
This is what sucks about deploying. I am the last to find out my baby is no longer breastfed
:(
I like the sleeping through the night thing. She needs to keep that up when I get home.
Baby number two is just referencing Kelly and I's type A, everything must be planned, tendency. We have to get pregnant between trips.
The baby's daddy
I love your update Kel, but the funniest part of this update was Rob's comment! :-) love you guys!
I must say, working full time and breastfeeding for that long - that is quite impressive. I didn't know that you can lose weight once you stop nursing. I was worried about putting some on once I stopped! It's always good to hear things like that!
And yes, Rob's comment was quite entertaining. :)
Need more updates! :-)Whats going on in the Mahan DOuglas world over there?
Kelly! OMG.......I found you via Lori's blog...Peyton is so beautiful (like her Mama)!!! ox Renee Chapman
